Moment

For me, the power of photography is the freezing of an ephemeral moment to hopefully capture an essence of place.  Beauty in gardens and their fleeting nature, first witnessed at Cloudehill, was what inspired me to pursue my path. Here, at Hillandale Gardens in New South Wales, Australia, it had only been a matter of days since, owner, Sarah Ryan’s father had passed away. As evening took hold, I was standing on a ladder, shooting into the light, when she arrived to offer water, and it was then that a magical profusion of insects exploded into the sky like fairy dust, backlit by the setting sun. Sarah said she had never witnessed such a display; the sheer beauty seemed to offer solace, and, perhaps a final farewell from her late father. I cropped the scene to look more like a painting, as Sarah is a true artist in her garden.
